Denver Newborn Photographer, I am so honored to photograph your baby’s first few days of life. Remember the yoga maternity images from last month? Here is her sweet baby boy – – just 5 days new. He is resting on a blanket his parents got in Nepal, when they were both teaching overseas.
That’s one of the things I suggest to new parents in their Newborn Photo Session Prep Tips; think about any special items from your home, or heirlooms that you would like to incorporate into your baby’s newborn portraits. Perhaps a rocking chair you had when you were a kid, or perhaps a special blanket you got in your travels. I’ve even photographed a newborn baby (a Triplet) with the photo of the Great Grandma she was named after.

newborn session last week. Baby X is 4 days old, and big brother Z is 3. His hand on Mommy’s shoulder, his sweet kiss to his new baby brother’s head, the contrast of the light skin on the dark shirts – WOW! (And no, this didn’t happen by accident – I provide all clients with simple prep tips to help us get AMAZING images like this one. It can be overwhelming to get professional photos taken, and even more overwhelming to prepare for a session while you have a newborn. And this is true if it’s your first, or your second…. or fifth, if you gave birth or if you adopted. In any situation, it’s a major transitional time and who can be expected to think of all the details needed to prep for photos???? That’s why I make it easy and give you step by step prep tips!)
BTW, if you read my blog posts you will know I’m a HUGE advocate for getting mom in the photo. I know that sometimes just after giving birth, and/or not sleeping for 4 or 5 days, you don’t feel like being photographed. But your images will be cherished by many more people, and more generations, if you are in it the image also. And since I view fine family photography as family heirloom, let’s make it as valuable as possible to as many generations as possible.
Here’s one example how we can accomplish getting moms in the photo if you don’t really feel like being photographed. And, you are still very much part of the photo. For the record, I def still prefer to have all of you – your face, your beautiful expression as you gaze at your newborn. But this is lovely, too!

I’ve been lucky enough to do modeling portfolio and headshots for many local Denver child and teen models. Today I’m thrilled to introduce our male model of the month, Ronan.
Ronan is super laid back, and (like many teen models) looks and acts much older than 13. He’s got a great sense of humor and as he mentions below, he had a hard time keeping a straight face during our portfolio session.
First let’s hear from Ronan’s mom, Lamia, who has a fascinating background!
Tell us about yourself and your family:
I was born in Wales, raised in Morocco, went to college and graduate school in Vermont, stayed in the US and lived in Louisiana 15 years before moving to Colorado in July 2013. I am a project manager for a start-up food manufacturing company and work is keeping me very busy. I don’t have much time to myself but if I did I’d want to do absolutely nothing! 🙂 As a family though, Ronan and I like to go skiing (for me) and snowboarding (for him) in the winter, or just being outdoors when it’s warm.
Now, let’s hear from Ronan in his own words:
My name is Ronan, I’m 13 years old. I’m an avid reader, enjoy going to the movies, but most of all I love playing football and basketball. The first thing that came to mind when asked about what would I dream of doing, is to drive a Lamborghini one day!
What is something about you that surprises people about you?
People are always surprised when I tell them my age because I’m so tall for my age. I am now 6′ tall 160lbs and still 13! My friends would say “he’s huge!”
What made you interesting in modeling?
I had never thought about it until a few friends of my parents kept saying I should try out modeling. I’ve had a few opportunities to audition for TV commercials but the timing conflicted with school vacation or I had a game.
Why did you pick Natascha Lee Studios for your modeling headshots?
Our modeling agency Wilhelmina highly recommended Natascha Lee Studios.
Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before the session?
I was definitely nervous because I had never done anything like this before. I was also very nervous because I thought I’d be the only boy, but when I showed up there was another guy.
How did the actual photo session go?
The photo shoot was so much fun, and Natascha made it very easy. My favorite part was trying to keep a straight face, it’s so hard to do but so funny!
Any advice to other models before their photo sessions?
It’s really not as serious as you think it may be. It’s a fun experience.
How did you feel/what did you think when received your images?
I was impressed when I received the pictures because I didn’t think I could look so cool LOL
If you could have any superpower, which one would it be and why?
Invincibility because I could do anything

Denver Baby Photographer, sometimes I think I have the best job ever! Like getting to take newborn infant portraits for the parents of this sweet baby girl. I photographed her at just 3 days old! And I just saw her yesterday and she is now 3 months old (yes, that is how far I am behind on blogging images). She just gets cuter every day.
This one was a special shoot, because we have known this mamma for several years, and my husband was my assistant that day. He loved holding this sweet little baby girl, and I had to remind him that her parents brought her for photos, not for him to hold! 😉 I kept saying, “Ok, give her to me please, I’m ready to take photos.” And he would walk away and pretend he didn’t hear me. 😉 (He loves babies, too!)
The little purple knit hat is so cute; it’s custom made from Etsy. I think someday I should post a photo of all my newborn baby photography props that I use during baby photo sessions. I would need a very wide lens to get them all in the photo. But it is so much fun, when parents come, to give them some options and choices. If you look @ a full newborn session with me, you’ll see that I do a few of the posed/prop photos, but I also like to do “lifestyle” photos, which are much more about just the baby, and some with the parents, too.
Because the photos of your baby will be cherished by three generations: you as parents, your own parents (the grandparents) and your kids. BUT, those that also include you, the parents will be cherished by five generations: yours, your parents, your kids (the baby in the photo), your kids’s kids, and even their kids (your great grandkids). If you have been lucky enough to have a photo of your grandparents holding your Mom or Dad as kids, or even a photo of your great grandparents holding your grandparents as kids, you know how magical that is! So, that’s why I always ask parents to get in the picture!

I photographed this Denver Yoga Mamma back when she was pregnant with her first child, and I photographed her baby when he was 7 days old. For our second maternity session here, we did a yoga-themed one. And I’ll be photographing this little baby very soon, as he is due this month! It will be my 5th photo session w/Kamala, as I photographed her and her pottery about 8 years ago! I love being her “official family photographer” and can’t wait to meet her newest family member…any day now!
