Denver Newborn Photographer, I am so honored to photograph your baby’s first few days of life. Remember the yoga maternity images from last month? Here is her sweet baby boy – – just 5 days new. He is resting on a blanket his parents got in Nepal, when they were both teaching overseas. That’s one of the things I suggest to new parents in their Newborn Photo Session Prep Tips; think about any special items from your home, or heirlooms that you would like to incorporate into your baby’s newborn portraits. Perhaps a rocking chair you had when you were a kid, or perhaps a special blanket you got in your travels. I’ve even photographed a newborn baby (a Triplet) with the photo of the Great Grandma she was named after. newborn session last week. Baby X is 4 days old, and big brother Z is 3. His hand on Mommy’s shoulder, his sweet kiss to his new baby brother’s head, the contrast of the light skin on the dark shirts – WOW! (And no, this didn’t happen by accident – I provide all clients with simple prep tips to help us get AMAZING images like this one. It can be overwhelming to get professional photos taken, and even more overwhelming to prepare for a session while you have a newborn.  And this is true if it’s your first, or your second…. or fifth,  if you gave birth or if you adopted. In any situation, it’s a major transitional time and who can be expected to think of all the details needed to prep for photos???? That’s why I make it easy and give you step by step prep tips!) BTW, if you read my blog posts you will know I’m a HUGE advocate for getting mom in the photo. I know that sometimes just after giving birth, and/or not sleeping for 4 or 5 days, you don’t feel like being photographed. But your images will be cherished by many more people, and more generations, if you are in it the image also. And since I view fine family photography as family heirloom, let’s make it as valuable as possible to as many generations as possible. Here’s one example how we can accomplish getting moms in the photo if you don’t really feel like being photographed. And, you are still very much part of the photo.  For the record, I def still prefer to have all of you – your face, your beautiful expression as you gaze at your newborn. But this is lovely, too!

Denver Baby Photographer, sometimes I think I have the best job ever! Like getting to take newborn infant portraits for the parents of this sweet baby girl. I photographed her at just 3 days old! And I just saw her yesterday and she is now 3 months old (yes, that is how far I am behind on blogging images). She just gets cuter every day. This one was a special shoot, because we have known this mamma for several years, and my husband was my assistant that day. He loved holding this sweet little baby girl, and I had to remind him that her parents brought her for photos, not for him to hold! 😉 I kept saying, “Ok, give her to me please, I’m ready to take photos.” And he would walk away and pretend he didn’t hear me. 😉 (He loves babies, too!) The little purple knit hat is so cute; it’s custom made from Etsy. I think someday I should post a photo of all my newborn baby photography props that I use during baby photo sessions. I would need a very wide lens to get them all in the photo. But it is so much fun, when parents come, to give them some options and choices. If you look @ a full newborn session with me, you’ll see that I do a few of the posed/prop photos, but I also like to do “lifestyle” photos, which are much more about just the baby, and some with the parents, too. Because the photos of your baby will be cherished by three generations: you as parents,  your own parents (the grandparents) and your kids. BUT, those that also include you, the parents will be cherished by five generations: yours, your parents, your kids (the baby in the photo), your kids’s kids, and even their kids (your great grandkids). If you have been lucky enough to have a photo of your grandparents holding your Mom or Dad as kids, or even a photo of your great grandparents holding your grandparents as kids, you know how magical that is! So, that’s why I always ask parents to get in the picture!

Fine Children's Portraiture: Adorable Toddler Boy in Farmer's Overalls (Denver Children's Photographer)

click here to see my “Best of 2015” Video.) The start of the year is also a great time for us professional photographers to catch up on portrait sessions that we never got around to sharing on social media. Esp at the end of the (previous) year, it’s such a busy time that our top priority is delivering portraits to clients, and our blogs/facebook/IG feed/etc tend to get neglected. But now that it’s a new year, I’m happy to finally get to share some images that have been waiting on my computer for a while now. This little boy is beyond adorable! We did the shoot @ a local farm, and he was dressed oh-so-right (which did not surprise me since his Mamma is very stylish). I photographed him when he was 3 months old, when he was almost 2, when he was almost 3, and he has a newborn little brother that I will be photographing very soon! I have photographed him so many times that when he saw me drive into the parking lot of this local farm, he started saying “smile! smile!” (For the record, I don’t ask kids to smile, as I want authentic emotion, and they rarely give real smiles on command, but I think “smile” the word he most associated with seeing cameras come out so it’s what came to mind.  And yes, that is an impressively long run on sentence – if you have met me in person, you  know that I often talk that exact way. ) Denver Children's Photography - Little boy @ Farm by Natascha Lee Studios

Broomfield Family Photography – Fall Family Portraits Video

Broomfield family portrait session. One of my favorite sessions of 2015. Now, usually I don’t share full-family photos between October 1 and Dec 25th. That’s because the families having me take their portraits in the fall are typically looking for photos that they can put on their walls AND use in their Christmas/Holiday cards. many of my clients know each other and/or are just one degree away from each other . Plus, as you know, I’m closed during the month of December.    Since many of my clients are friends with each other (word-of-mouth is how most people find me!), and/or they are only separated by 1 degree –  I don’t want to “steal anyone’s thunder” or ruin the surprise. So I wait till after Xmas to share those family portraits. I feel like this is a great place to go off on a tangent, and mention that people still LOVE getting real, physical cards in the mail – esp when they include a recent family photo, (ideally a professionally taken one but really any family photo is great) THAT INCLUDES THE PARENTS! Please, parents, do NOT send cards with only photos of your children. If you are sending cards to YOUR friends then they also want to see YOU! I promise you this. We want to see photos of OUR friends just as much as the photos of our friends’ kids! So, back to the original topic – this lovely mamma has given me permission to put this video up now, before Xmas. I’m not putting it on FB or IG – just on my blog. We took her family portraits in late October, and the colors were splendid! Two weeks later we did her viewing session (loads of fun with wine, chocolate snacks and so many laughs!)  – and then, the day after their viewing session, she sent me one of the kindest texts ever! It made me so very happy. Have you ever done that, just sent a random gratitude text? What a great way to make someone’s day and to increase the positive energy in the world! I love this gal!
