It’s Summer!I just love Summer Photo Sessions! And Broomfield, Westminster and Louisville are so so green and pretty right now.
Here’s a sneak peek of the cover of my new Studio Magazine, Volume 3, which I’m just now finishing up with my very talented designer. (Happy to pass on their contact info if you need a magazine designer.)

This was such a lovely maternity session and check out those blue eyes on Mamma, Pappa and Baby Girl.
My favorite image is the first one. It’s one of my favorite maternity images ever!
I love Daddy’s hands on Mommy’s belly, and the expression on Big Sister To Be as she gazes up at her Mamma. When I took this image, she had just finished kissing her baby sibling-to-be.
One of the things I focus on is capturing the special relationship within each family. Look at the tender expression on Daddy’s face as he hugs his little girl.
And the joy on her face as she runs through the park.
I just loved this session.
Oh, and the family was awesome – they were willing to meet me at 6 am!!!! for a sunrise session.
I love shooting during sunrise and sunset. Sunset is more convenient, because you don’t have to wake up early. BUT..sunrise is also awesome because you just get more and more light, and you don’t have to stop once it gets dark.
In Celebration of Mothers Those who have spoken with me know that I am pretty passionate about photographing mothers and fathers with their children; not just the children alone, but children with their parents as well! How else can you truly capture the love and special connection of a family? When I get push back on this (“Oh, no I don’t want to be in the photos – just the kids!”), I ask:
What is *your* most cherished childhood photo?
Is it the one of you smiling big on your first day of school? The one where you are holding up a Christmas gift? One where you are sleeping on the beach? Or is it one that includes your parents, playing with you, holding you, just being themselves?
For most of us, our most cherished images include our parents, and show the love we felt for each other. They might not be technially perfect, they probably aren’t cheesy posed images; they are real and they are precious. I worry that mothers are taking hundreds (thousands?) of images of their kids, and not including themselves in hardly any of them! I want to encourage all those moms who take tons of snapshots of their kids, to make sure that they themselves are in at least some of them. It’s not hard, I promise! Have your spouse take a turn with the camera/phone, ask another parent to snap a few, hold the camera or phone out the way you do when you take pix with your bestie, or even give the camera to your kiddo and ask them to take your photo. (Just make sure you position your kiddo or yourself so they aren’t shooting up your nostrils. ) That photo where your hair wasn’t perfect but you were having a snow fight with your kids? Or the one where your smile is a little lopsided and you are still in your PJs? Or the one where you looked tired from being up half the night with the baby but you are lovely gazing down at your todder? That’ll probably be their favorite. Summer Video. This completes my “Four Seasons of Custom Family Portraits for Colorado Families” video series, which you can view here. The summer one below was a concept session rather than a regular portrait session. Concept sessions are far more complex since they involve props, storyline, etc…., but they are also also tons and tons of fun. This particular one was done over two successive evenings, and it even involved two assistants! I think the results are spectacular, and it was even featured on InspireMeBaby.

She was here, then there… so quick to snap a shot that enabled a viewer to see a panoramic view, which isn’t easy to do. She took adorable photos for mom and baby as well as lingerie and jewelry. And this is the best part: she took photos of me that I couldn’t resist, and that is the rare bird that can do that. Hats off to Natascha!
