Modeling Photos for Denver Teen Models and Denver Cheer

is a recent BTS (behind the scenes) photo taken during a teen model photos session.  Mom is so cute and stylish! And she is holding the reflector for when her daughter turns around and faces the other way (not for this particular shot.) This was a super fun session we did Sunday afternoon @ my studio.  Her daughter is into competitive cheer and is, as you can see, crazy flexible.  They brought tons of cute clothes and we had a blast picking our favorite 3 outfits for the modeling session. If you are looking for a great gift to give your teenage daughter, give her a modeling photos session! Even if she doesn’t want to pursue modeling, it will be an amazing experience and she’ll have some fab photos to share on IG or Snapchat. Plus, you’ll have great photos that celebrate who she is today, in all her lovely teenage glory. Many of my Denver child and teen modeling clients have not done this before, and I provide plenty of tips on how to prepare, what to bring, clothing advice, etc. Most importantly, your teenage will feel on cloud 9 after the experience. B/c it’s always about the journey as well as the destination, right? So the actual session is a blast, and then you get photos that Wow you in the end. Win/win! 😉 BTW, this gal’s mom was super smart – she was close by, but she never made suggestions on what her daughter should do during the shoot. That’s a tip I share with parents – teenagers are their own person, and they would rather not have their parents directing them during the shoot. (That’s what I’m there for!)  Even when you are picking out clothes, bring some outfits that you like and some that they like. You’ll end up with a great mix of photos that you love, and also photos that reflect their true personality.

Denver Child Model of the Month Presley

Headshots with Personality(sm)  for his business – he’s an entrepreneur. Presley’s mother has the very best style! Plus, as fellow tech geeks, we have a “May the Fourth” tradition. I love how Presley’s aunt comes to the shoots, and the viewing sessions, etc. One of my favorite BTS images ever, which came from this shoot,  is here. A very close knit family! And I can’t wait to do their family portraits later this year! 😉

  1. Tell us about you, mom:
My name is Seonah, born in South Korea,  lived in New York for 25 years but now living in and loving Coloardo. When I’m by myself, I enjoy creating/crafting things. I love working on scrapbooks for Presley, or working in my green house. I don’t have the best “green thumb”, but there’s a lot of satisfaction watching something you planted bear fruit. As a family, we love taking road trips together. The longest trip we took was to Chicago, 14 plus hours in the car, we had a lot of quality time without TV or Internet. Presley is a little thrill seeker, so for the summer we bought season passes to Elitch Gardens. She’s just tall enough to ride all the kiddie ride!
  1. Tell us about your child model:
Presley will be  turning 3 in July. She loves to read, one of her favorite is “Go, Dog. Go!” by Dr. Seuss. She reads it cover to cover a few times before bed. She’s very into the original Star Wars Trilogy. She asked to have a Star Wars theme birthday party this year, and requested the presence of Hans Solo and Chewbacca. However, she also loves Disney princesses like Elsa, Mulan and Ariel. She loves playing with clay, and creating meals for everyone. She’s extremely active, and loves to run, play sports and dance.
3. What is something about your child that surprises people?
People are surprised to find out how “tomboyish” Presley can be. She loves to be tossed up in the air and free fall down. Jumps off of everything and see if she can fly like a super hero. She’s also very independent. She seems to enjoy her “alone” time, sitting on the couch with a book, while “The Big Bang Theory” is playing in the background.
4. What made you/your child interesting in modeling?  What sort of experience have you had so far?
I thought it would be a fun experience for Presley. She’s such a little ham, and loves to put on a show for fun. She booked her first magazine shoot in March, and it was an amazing time. I don’t think she fully grasps the idea of being a “model” and taking pictures of the clothes. I just told her she was going on a play date, and she had a blast.
5. This is your second time working with Natascha Lee Studios for your modeling headshots…why did you pick her for your Denver Child Model Headshots?
The first time I searched for a photographer, I  Googled online and used key words like “Child” “Model” “Headshots”, and Natascha’s name constantly came up first. After researching Natascha, I learned that she was a main photographer for a reputable children’s modeling agency. I was a complete newbie to professional photos and modeling agencies, so I wanted to go with a photographer that had knowledge about both worlds. The first time I spoke with Natascha, I knew she was the right photographer for us. She was so friendly, welcoming and informative. I didn’t feel intimidated, and she put me at ease. Presley was 1.5 years old the first time Natascha took her pictures, and the final results left me speechless. She captured all the beautiful smiles, big laughs and serene looks. Wowever she was also able to capture Presley’s spirit, and true essence. I went with Natascha for the second time, because she did such wonderful job the first time, I knew she would do the same again.
6. Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before the session?
For parents with toddlers, you know your child’s mood can change on a whim. Presley for the most part is a well behaved, go with the flow kind of girl, however a week prior to the shoot, it’s as if she learned the meaning of a tantrum. I was worried she would not be into taking pictures that day. To my relief, not only did she want to take pictures, she was excited for it. I think that had a lot to do with Natascha’s fun vibe.
7. How did the actual photo session go? What was your favorite part of your session?
The session was fun and exciting.  My favorite part was re-enacting a shot from her previous session. The photo Natascha captured was perfect. It showed how my little girl has changed so much in a year. One of my favorite shots. Literally gave me chills when I saw it.
8. Any advice to other models before their photo sessions?
The morning of the photo session, we were running a little late so I asked my husband to feed Presley breakfast as I got ready. My husband gave her sugary cereal and sugary yogurt. I would’ve opted for some eggs and toast. By the time we got to the studio, Presley was already bouncing off the walls. She was so full of energy, it was hard to keep her still. My advise would be to eat a healthy, balanced breakfast so you have a good amount of energy in your system, without jittery sugar blasts. 🙂
9. How did you feel/what did you think when received your images?
Delighted and fortunate. I was so grateful that Natascha captured Presley perfectly. I also felt fortunate to have these pictures to look back on when she’s all grown up.
10. And the most fun question of all – If you could have any superpower, which one would it be and why?
My super power would be to help people see the brighter side of things, or reveal their compassionate side. ie: When individuals are riled up, and about to get into a fight, or just filled with anger. I would help them see their softer, compassionate, loving side, and they’ll see how “ugly” they’re being towards themselves and others. Once we’re able to see kindness within ourselves, it’s when we’re able to share it with others. I would call this “Hippie power”.

Denver Urban Photography Studio Tour 2- Natascha Lee Studios – Denver Baby, Kids, Family and Highschool Senior Photography

model portfolio done by you. Do you have any places you shoot with red brick walls, kinda distressed?” And that will become an inspiration to do a blog posting….I can answer that photography client’s specific question with images, and then I have it available anyone in the future who asks. Today, I’m sharing a few iphone videos taken this Fall @ one of my satellite studio locations. This isn’t far from my Denver Studio, but it’s a totally different Urban space and feel.  For one thing, it’s mostly outdoors – so not so great on sub-freezing days. But the variety of background make for fab photos. I did a senior shoot here in the fall, and the space helped us get truly unique photos to celebrate Bella, the Cherry Creek Highschool (CCHS) senior during this special time in her life. The videos below help you get a feel for the place, and I’ve included photos taken in each of the spaces (like my other studio tour posts here and here).

First up is this great red brick barn, with sliding doors on one side and it is just flooded with natural light from the sliding doors:

We can make photos like this: #CCHS Senior Photos - CCHS_ClassOf2017_IMG_7637_NataschaLeeStudios-eal-sfw

And the cool metal staircase in the corner can be used like this: Cherry Creek Highschool Senior Portraits - Denver Family and Model Photographer

This one shows the barn and the outside:

Then there’s this great corner with lots of plants including grape vines climbing an arbor, a super cool metal table, vines climbing the walls, and yummy light:

We can do photos like this:

Finally, the part that is probably my favorite – the huge sliding doors.

And we can use those doors, and the diffused light as a background to make photos like this. I just love, love, love this image:

So that’s the tour. This space is a special place, and available as an upgrade option to your photo session!

Finally, I’ll include some photos I used in a previous post. I was going to link to them, but I might as well just include them here:

Denver Stylish Family Photography – Washington Park

modeling portfolio images for  a local Denver modeling agency, their family portraits last year (also done @ Washington Park) , their older daughter’s senior portraits (go Cherry Creek!), and their entire family this year, too. It’s an honor to be part of my client’s lives like this! And, can I just say how much I love Washington Park? It’s like the National Parks (celebrating their 100th anniversary this year).  But Wash Park is even older. From Wikipedia:

The park was first developed by Architect Reinhard Scheutze in 1899. Its design was influenced by city planner Kessler, the Olmsted Brothers and the famous philanthropist “The Unsinkable” Molly Brown.
So, thanks to those folks over a century ago, and the people today who tend to it and esp the folks who do the flowers and landscaping – they all bring so much joy to so many people. When I’m meeting Denver friends, one of my favorite things to do is to meet there for a walk, bike ride or picnic. We met at sunrise for the family portraits. It’s hard to get camera-ready that early in the morning, but it is always worth it! Denver Family Photography - Portraits at Washington Park by Natascha Lee Studios

Denver Teen Model of the Month: Corrinne

We are thrilled to introduce our Denver teen model of the month for October:

Denver Teen Model headshots portfolio photographer Natascha Lee StudiosDenver Modeling Headshots and Portfolios for Denver Teen Model

Congrats to our Model of the Month:  Corrinne, a lovely 15 year old (14 when we did her modeling photos) from Denver. Let’s start by meeting Paula, Corrinne’s mom:
Hi! I’m Paula Metcaffe,  originally from Wisconsin. When I have time to myself, I love to garden, work around the house and shop. Our family loves to vacation together in tropical places. For Christmas this year, we opted for palm trees instead of evergreens and went to Hawaii.
And now, a bit about her beautiful daughter – Corrine, tell us about yourself:
Hi, I’m Corrinne Metcaffe and I am 15! -I like snapchat, twitter, volley ball, going to concerts, history and gym. I LOVE makeup and REALLY LOVE food.  I dream of traveling to Australia and all of Europe.
Corrine, what is something about you that surprises people when they find out about it?
People are surprised to find out I was born in California but then lived in Wisconsin until I was 6, when I moved to Colorado.  I’m super tall, so my friends feel like “ant” next to me. If you need anything from your top shelf, I’m your gal!
Paula, made your daughter Corrine interested in modeling?
We heard about an event for kids that wanted to model and act. Corrinne wanted to try it – she was 10. It was held on the Disney property in Florida, just outside of Disneyworld. The kids learned how to walk the runway and pose. The read lines for commercials and performed in front of a camera. There were 1200 kids from all over the country. She got to meet so many people and learn many new things. One of the highlights was meeting the host of the show. It was David Deluise, the dad from Wizards of Waverly Place. There were agents from the east coast and California. She had several offers that would have required us to move for the summer. At the time we were not able to go but it was a great experience and we made a lot of fun memories. She has wanted to model ever since.
Why did you pick Natascha Lee Studios for your modeling headshots?
We picked Natascha for several reasons. We have had numerous photographers over the years. Some were good and others not so good… but we wanted something different.  Something great. So, we began our search. Natascha had such great client reviews and we loved her work. Everyone looked so natural and comfortable. The chemistry with your photographer is almost as important as their skills.
Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before the session?
No. Natascha gave us great prep tips. We were only excited as to how the images would turn out.
What was your favorite part of your session?
The session went so fast. We were there for a few hours but it was so much fun that time flew. Favorite Part –  it was a tossup – the shoot with the glitter was great but I think that doing a shoot on the roof was the best.
Any advice to other new models before their photo sessions?
Bring lots of clothing options. Even more than you think you will need. Have fun!
How did you feel/what did you think when received your images?
So happy! We loved them. Everyone in the family had their favorite!
Ok – the most important question of all: If you could have any superpower, which one would it be and why?
Corrinne: A mind reader –  I could know what my teachers are thinking!
