May the 4th Be With You (What a difference a year makes)

May the 4th Be With You (What a difference a year makes)

missing my “May the 4th” pal this year. We seem to have viewing sessions around May 4th each year.
But just had to share what a difference a year makes. Here is her lovely Denver child model daughter, Presley in her tutus! We love tutus!
These photos were taking almost exactly a year apart. PS – For our last “1 year apart” image, click here.

I highly recommend annual photo sessions WITH your kids. It’s so fun to see how they grow from year to year.
As I tell all my client, friends, family (anyone who will listen, really) – investing in quality family portraits is one of the best choices you can make this year.
Long after the spontaneous Target or Costco shopping spree is spent (been there, done that), or the stylish purse, the on-trend shoes, the expertly applied streaky hair highlights (or purple hair tips) are gone, long after the fancy meals are eaten, the fine wine is drunk and forgotten, long after the pretty new couch looks worn and old – these images are what will last forever and bring you joy several generations.

Client Story – Broomfield Family Portraits – Fabulous Fall Portraiture

December break that gave me time to  pull all this together. Better late than never, right?  😉 Jade is a local Broomfield mother, and the owner and chef behind Jades Kitchen (Delicious food made with love.) It’s such a treat to get to order healthy, delicious homemade food for your family! And of course, it’s a bonus that you get to support a local mother-owned business. Well, perhaps the biggest bonus is that you don’t have to shop or cook or clean – it’s all done for you. LOVE that! Jade had me do her family portraits and we had so much fun with her sweet calm family. Seriously, the most mellow, calm daughters ever! I wish I could bottle that and release it at my own house from time to time. BTW, she also had me do Headshots with Personality(sm)  to create an image bank (a full suite of marketing photos) for her business, website and marketing materials (more on that later!) For today, I’m sharing  her images from her beautiful Premium Family Portrait album, starting with the cover and the back. I think it’s great to see what a finished product looks like. Esp if you aren’t so much the video type, and you prefer to look @ “still images.” One thing people often notice (and appreciate) is that I take a variety of photos that capture each of the unique relationships within your family: you and your spouse, your spouse and the kids, you and the kids, you and each kid individually, the kids together, the kids alone, etc. 001-002 005-006 007-008 011-012 013-014 015-016 017-018 019-020 I’m so excited to share these beautiful images with you.

  1. Tell us a little bit about you and your family?
I love my family. As a family we love the big and little things – taking a road trip to a new part of Colorado that we haven’t seen before, hiking in Boulder, playing board games and UNO, watching movies, eating ice cream at our favorite local spot – Sweet Cow, traveling to new places – two years ago we rented a house at the beach in Oregon (favorite vacation so far), eating dinner at Happy Sumo… For myself, I love to be alone in my free time. It gives me time to think and re-energize. If I feel indulgent, I will curl up on the couch and read my book, or watch a movie. I do love coffee dates with friends, but I always have to make sure I carve out some time just for me. The one thing I have always dreamed of doing…is an African Safari. It would be spectacular and frightening at the same time to see all those wild animals!
  1. What made you decide this was the time to do a family photo session?
Jillian, my first baby, was starting middle school, and Ella, my second baby, was about to turn 8. It was the perfect time to capture them, ages 7 & 10. I will always remember them in these photos – still believing in Santa Clause and the tooth fairy.
  1.  Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before the session?
I wasn’t worried about a thing! Natascha is so professional and did such a great job at preparing us so we had an idea of what to expect.
  1. What made you choose Natascha Lee Studios?
I had seen a marketing brochure for her business, and the photos were absolutely stunning.
  1. How did the actual  photo session go? What was your favorite part of your session?
The photo session was everything I hoped it would be! She did such an amazing job capturing the girls in the sweetest of moments. I love how authentic our pictures are, even when we are “posing.” My favorite part of the session was watching Jorin, my husband, with the girls, and the girls tickling him on Natascha’s cue. He loves his girls so much.
  1. How about the viewing session? – What did you think or feel when you saw your gallery of images? What did your husband think?
Oh my goodness! I laughed when she offered me a tissue (Note from Natascha: I often say that “I make moms cry, because a lot of the time a mom will get teary-eyed when viewing her family’s photos for the first time). And then the slide show of my family portraits started, and I started to cry tears of love and joy. Needless to say, the viewing session was very special. for all of us. Natascha is a true professional, making her clients (including the little ones) feel comfortable, and making the session incredibly special, with lots of laughter in between.
  1. What do you hope your children will say/feel/think years down the road when looking at these images?
That they were little, and sweet, and innocent, and believed in Santa Clause… Most importantly, that we are a close family and we love each other so much.
  1. Any advice to other families before their photo sessions?
I would honestly say to them: “Natascha is so talented, and does an amazing job at capturing the moment. She listens to your vision, and then perfects it on a whole new level. Her attention to detail is represented in her work. You can trust that your pictures will be perfect.”
  1. How did you feel/what did you think when received your final order/had your products delivered?
Absolute amazement. And we received so many compliments! I especially appreciate all the details – from the pictures being wrapped in beautiful boxes with ribbon, the homemade tray holding our pictures, to the custom wooden USB – the presentation was beautiful.

Thank you Jade! It was my pleasure to create your family portraits!

Fraser Winter Park Family Portraits

Fraser Family Portraits Outdoors by Natascha Lee Studios I’m so excited to share these beautiful images with you. They were taken last summer in Fraser near Winter Park, of this fabulous, photogenic and VERY outdoorsy family.  Seriously, who goes CAMPING with a 5 and 2 year old? I’m impressed!

  1. Tell us a little bit about your family?
There are four of us – I’m Sara, and I teach at an arts school. My husband Josh is in technical sales, my daughter Haliey is 5 and my son Sasha is 2. We love to spend time outside, year round – backpacking, hiking, and skiing. Yes, we really do camp with young children but we have tricks. Like, we hike @ East Meadow in RMNP. My husband goes up to the site with one backpack while I take the kids for ice cream, then he comes back and we all hike in, and he is wearing baby Sasha on the baby backpack. No, you don’t get a lot of sleep when camping w/young kids, but there are so many other amazing experiences about backpacking.
  1. What made you decide this was the time to do a photo session?
We had just bought our mountain condo, and wanted to mark this special occasion, to memorialize this time in our lives. Also, the kids were just so adorable – I wanted to capture both their adorableness now! Plus, I wasn’t getting any younger! 😉
  1. You did a “Super Session”, which is offered for families buying images for two or more distinct homes.
Yes, I was excited for the variety that the Super Session offers. It was intimidating to gather outfits for two different sessions but in the end I loved it. It gave us a variety of images and it really worked well for our young kids because they got a nice break between sessions while they changed clothes, got something to drink etc. I also liked the different light between the first session when the sun was first coming up around 6am, and the and second session an hour later. Even though the sessions were back to back, there was quite a difference in the light.
  1.  Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before the session?
The kids behavior!  Because my daughter can be difficult and my son, well he is two. I was also nervous about getting the clothes together.  But Natascha gave me great prep tips, and the “what to wear” links helped.
  1. What made you choose Natascha Lee Studios?
I saw your images on your website, and they matched what I had in mind – very natural, and not staged or posed.
  1. How did the actual  photo session go?
It went great. I loved that Natascha came to us, to my favorite spot in Fraser. And everyone (even my husband) was engaged the entire time. I think it was Natascha’s enthusiasm that got everyone involved. And she kept things moving – we tried lots of different poses, locations, etc. I was amazed at how well the kids responded to the bribe of a single Smartie candy – not even the whole roll, just a single candy. (Photographers note: this is my top secret helper. I never bring it out until I have exhausted all the other options, but it works great and it doesn’t leave any stains on hands or faces or clothes…that way that chocolate might.)
  1. How about the viewing session? – What did you think or feel when you saw your gallery of images? What did your husband think?
It was overwhelming because there were so many great images. It was great to see them all, very professional presented on the large TV. The viewing session experience did justice to the images.
  1. What do you hope your children will say/feel/think years down the road when looking at these images?
These will be great keepsakes. I hope my kids realized remember how cute they were! And I’m excited to give these as Xmas gifts.
  1. Any advice to other families before their photo sessions?
Really follow N’s tip advice. She knew that clothes and kid’s behavior were the two top concerns everyone has. She said to dress Mom first and I didn’t do that – I dressed the kids first. It all worked out, but I wish I had dressed myself first. When selecting for the kids first, that then limited my choices. Also, be sure to allow 2 hours for your viewing session, so you can take time to select your favorite images. If you have a location that is special to you, spend the extra money to have your photos taken at that location – you will love the photos that much more. Get images now, while your kids are still so cute! And while you are the age you are now. As I said before, we aren’t getting any younger!
  1. How did you feel/what did you think when received your final order/had your products delivered? What did your husband think?
LOVED it.  Everyone who sees them says “Wow, you guys look so good.”   Winter Park Family Photos Outside by Natascha Lee Studios

Modeling Portfolio Images : Denver Teen Models

Denver teen model portfolio and headshot session last year and I had to share. Isn’t it great? This teen model is so lovely – and I love the dress she is wearing – it suits her so well! BTW, you may wonder how photographers come across images from months (sometimes years) ago that we didn’t ever share. Or you may wonder why we didn’t share them back when we took them….Here is how…during busy seasons, we take photos, deliver images to the client, repeat, repeat. We are so focused on meeting our clients needs that sometimes we forget to share our favorite ones on our blogs/social media/etc.  I think that’s a great thing, because it means we are focused on meeting our clients’ needs. (Yay!) But it does mean that our blogs/IG feeds/FB pages/etc can get neglected. (Boo!) Then something will happen that makes us think of a session we did – like we will talk to a client who is booking with us again, and we will think, “Oh! I really like the photos from that shoot, and I never did share them publicly.”  Or we do a shoot that reminds us of a previous shoot, and we’ll realize the same thing….”Oh! I never did post photos from that shoot.!” Or we just get a message from the client thanking us and letting us know how our images for their child model won a modeling competition. (Double yay!) That happens to me quite a bit. And I know that social media is supposed to be all about the “now”, but a great image of a beautiful teen girl model from last year…well, that is timeless and still should be shared…even if the photographer (me) is months behind! Behind the Scenes at a Denver Photoshoot for Child Models

Behind the Scenes at a Denver Photoshoot for Child Models

Happy Tuesday! I had an exciting weekend with several photo shoots – corporate headshots for a local Cherry Creek Bank, a slew of models, and a family session – 15 people in all! While I don’t have images (sneek peaks) ready for those yet, I do want to share  another  behind the scenes (“bts”) image from a recent Denver Photoshoot for Child Models  (click here to see my last “bts” image, of a sweet little baby out in a nature setting).

You’ll see from the “bts” image above that we are actually in an urban setting, but using the foliage and a DOF (depth of field) setting that blurs the background, we put all the focus on her lovely face.

This gal is a local Denver child model, and this was her first photo shoot (as a model). She was such a natural! And her mom was super nice, too.

Check out that headband! Looks like something you can find on etsy.com, doesn’t it?
