I’m constantly impressed by how my clients style themselves (and their family) for their portrait sessions. For those who are not familiar with “styling” for a photography session, it involves selecting the clothes and props to use during a session. I recomend avoiding logos or letters, but beyond that, wear whatever you love and feel good in. If you pick a color for your entire family to wear, I suggest selecting one item of clothing for each person to wear, so that it’s not too matchy-matchy.
Some of my clients even do Pinterest boards as inspiration for our photo sessions. My only challenge with Pinterest is that I get sucked in, and end up spending waaaay too much time there. So, if you are a client and you would like send me your currated Pinterest board, go for it! But please don’t send it to me in the morning or my whole day will be shot! 😉
This is the first of three posts with handy-dandy guides and suggestions. I think I”m partial to this particular style guide because it matches the colors in my logo! For more suggestions, check back in a few days and/or see my previous post here.
Natascha is a great photographer to work with! I have been fortunate enough to partner with her for product shots for my business, as well as family photos. She is wonderful with children and can get my usually challenging toddler to smile and engage with her! Thank you Natascha for all of your hard work and wonderful photographs!

By the way, Amy is a fabulous crochet artist with wonderful items for sale on Etsy. I am lucky enough to have an extensive selection of her her lovely props and use at least one of them in each of my my newborn sessions.
Below is one of my favorite images from their Fabulous Fall Portrait Session held in Westminster, Colorado – just look at the sunlight filtering through the changing Aspen and Cottonwood leaves..
I esp. love the look on their little boy as he gazes down at Mommy and Daddy kissing!
Summer Video.
This completes my “Four Seasons of Custom Family Portraits for Colorado Families” video series, which you can view here.
The summer one below was a concept session rather than a regular portrait session. Concept sessions are far more complex since they involve props, storyline, etc…., but they are also also tons and tons of fun.
This particular one was done over two successive evenings, and it even involved two assistants!
I think the results are spectacular, and it was even featured on InspireMeBaby.
I just love photographing fathers playing with their kiddos.
Here is a quick sneak peek at a recent family session I did in Westminster/Broomfield, Colorado.
Can you believe the yellow leaves are still out in November? Amazing.
This little boy was one of my toughest, with very few smiles for Josephine* that day. But here is his happiness on full display, while playing with Daddy.
I’ll post a few more pix from this session later, but for now I just knew that Mamma is excited to see at least one.
And, Mamma runs a super cool company on etsy that I’ll tell you about next time I post.
*Yes, my camera is named Josephine. I got the idea from Lucille.
Along those same lines, I just love this color guide for portrait clothes from Lina Jarmond. (Thanks to Lina for letting me re-post it here.)
I am almost all booked for my fall sessions , and one of the first questions people ask is, “What should I wear?”
See the nifty image below for ideas (each color palette has a Mommy, Daddy and Kiddos suggestions), and/or check out page 26 in my Summer Studio Magazine.
fun, fresh and fabulous outdoor portraits for newborns, infants, children, and families, I find that hot days mean we need to start even earlier or shoot later. Speaking of later, did you see the amazing sunset in Broomfield tonight? The wind kicked up dust into the air and that’s what gave us such magnificent colors. I captured many photos of the stunning sky.

I just added the Spring Video. Yes, I’m that far behind in posting sessions. And now it’s the middle of Summer. Perhaps I’ll have the Summer Video up in time for Fall. 😉
