I’m so excited to announce my 2015 Back to School Blackboard Mini Sessions.
Saturday, Aug 29th, 9 am – 11 am, only 10 slots available
Bring your kiddo (ages 3 – 18 – sorry, this one is just for the kiddos ) with their favorite new school outfit. Or any outfit they love. They can even bring a favorite stuffed toy, sports equipment, etc.
Personalize the experience and your child’s photo by writing a few key things about your kiddo as they are now! (Remember my last blog post where I talked about how children love to personalize the photos with something that is special and meaningful to them? Well, that’s what these sessions are about! That list on the left, above Kacey, are all the things that are important to her, or things that describe her as she is now…..You get to come up with the word list along with your child. Or, we can just use a plain blackboard background and have them hold their favorite toy/sports equipment/etc.)
End up with a WOW portrait of your child to cherish forever, capturing what they are like today, at the start of the 2015-2016 school year.
2 packages available:
Package One: 4 poses to select from, 1 digital file printable up to 8 x 10 and a 5 x 7 print of your favorite pose
Package Two – Everything in package 1, plus a second indoor shooting location, and a digital file printable to 8 x 10 plus an 8 x 10 print of your two favorite poses
BTW, as a special appreciation gift to my clients, If I have done a regular family session for you in the last 12 months, package One is FREE for you!

CF card wallets and specially padded cases for our lenses. Basically anything that allows you to transport your stuff and access it easily while you are on the go. I really believe that having just the right bag (from a functional perspective), with a few key/relevant items, will make any endeavor easier. When I travel, about 20% of my suitcase has the various bags I think I might need at my destination. I was so thrilled a few years back when a friend of mine started working at Ebags. Yea, that’s what you call an obsession. And here is the story how I came to find my newest favorite bag:
Last fall I had the honor to photograph Jennifer’s family. All my photography clients get detailed preparation tips, so she knew to bring a change of clothes, a few accessories for herself, and her son’s favorite sports balls. This is quite a bit of stuff, and you want an easy way to gather it together, carry it, and also easily access just what you want without digging through a dark bag. They love Red Rocks, so that’s where we met for their family photo session. Unlike my Denver studio or a few favorite local parks, where I typically meet families for portraits, Red Rocks had us hiking very far from our cars. Sounds like just the job for a good bag, right? 😉
As soon as she showed up with this Thirty One Gifts Large Utility Tote, I knew I HAD to get one (or two or three…well, Ok, I ordered four, but some of them in smaller sizes!) It comes in different colors, it’s $35, and you can personalize it with your name (for an additional fee.) I use one for my newborn session props, and we use another as our pool bag. Click HERE to order your own. During the Month of May, you get to order a second one for $10.

I love doing yoga photography! Here are a couple of Michelle in scorpion pose, and Crystal in Bridge Pose. How fabulous is Crystal’s smile? She had so much fun! (So did Michelle, this is just one of her more concentrated times.)

Don’t you love this weather; super hot yesterday, chilly and overcast today. Typical Colorado weather! But the changes during this “Transition Season” from Winter to Spring can make it hard to know what to wear for family portraits . Below is a sample of a great idea – by layering, you can be ready for any weather. And, having layers helps to give you a variety of images. I always suggest that my clients bring a change of top, or a jacket or scarf so we can quickly and easily “mix it up.”
BTW, all my clients get detailed prep tips, including a phone consult on what to wear. This can result in a duffle-bag size collection of clothes and accessories. One of my clients last fall brought the greatest bag for this! I’ll get the details on that bag and blog about it next time.
In the meantime, if you are looking for lots of ideas on what to wear, you can check out my other blog postings on “Style“, or check out my Pinterest guide, “What to Wear“, or check out this pin that has been repinned the most of all my pins.
