Top 5 Tips for Parents – Capturing Your Child’s True Spirit in Professional Portraits | Family Photography by Natascha Lee Studios
Tip 3) Share advance intel. Tell the photographer a few things about your child(ren) in advance – things they like to watch, read, do. That will help create a quick connection and conversation starting point. Similarly, tell your child about the exciting event you are going to do together. Build it up as something special and fun. With your child, visit the photographer’s About Me section of their website – show your children the photographer’s photo, and a bit about them. This will make your child more comfortable with the photographer. Two Key Tasks: Find a photographer whose style you love and budget appropriately.
Tip 4) Follow the photographer’s preparation suggestions. A experienced photographer will send you detailed instructions on how to prepare, which go beyond just selecting cute clothes for everyone. Invest time in reading them and doing all the ones that make sense for you and your family. As I tell my clients, proper preparations can take your photos from Amazing to Mind-Blowing.Two Key Tasks: Tell the photographer two things your kid likes, and visit the photographer’s About Me page with your child.
Tip 5) Relax. Once you have done all your preparation work, let the photographer do their job. I know it’s tempting to step in and tell you kid what to do/not to do, but that usually creates a less cooperative kid, not a more cooperative one. Professional Photographers have plenty of tricks up their sleeve, and sometimes even a roll of SmartiesTM.Key Tasks: If all else fails, make sure your kids are well rested, super clean (noses, eyes, face, fingernails, etc.) and select clothes your kids are comfortable in.
Below is a sneak peek from a recent portrait session held for a Littleton family. (Backstory: This little boy is impishly looking at the water’s edge, eying the old pieces of wood just begging to be tossed into the lake. ) This is a perfect example of capturing a child’s true personality, and I suspect it will end up being one of his mother’s favorites! ]]>Two Key Tasks: Show your child you are relaxed and having fun, and trust the photographer to get amazing images (Because you did follow tip #1, right?)
This sweet little Broomfield girl is as beautiful inside as she on the outside. And she is silly, goofy and fun! When she sees me, she gives me “Squeezy Hugs.” 😉
This one of of our more quiet poses from my recent Ballet Art Portrait Series…but soon I’ll post another one of the final selections by her parents, which will show her other side (the crazy goofy side!).

]]>I’m so honored when friends get together and give my Baby Plan as a Baby Shower Gift to a new Mom-to-Be.
A Baby Plan lets you capture all the wonderful changes in your baby’s first year, with a custom portrait session at each milestone:
The start of your baby’s journey! We suggest maternity sessions take place around 28-35 weeks and are usually held outdoors. Maternity sessions capture and convey the joy and excitement you and your partner have for your baby.
Newborn sessions take place between 2 – 10 days old, so that we can capture their sweet sleepy newborn goodness. These are held indoors, usually at our studio.
Your baby has become so alert, pushing up on his or her tummy and giving social smiles and even laughs! And those sweet little rolls on their legs! These sessions can be held outdoors if the weather is nice, or at our studio, or even sometimes at our client’s home.
Your baby can now sit up on his or her own and turns to follow you where ever you are. And you know the special noises that elicit great belly laughs. We’ll capture their personality, be it outgoing and vivacious or sweet, shy and reserved.
Your baby can now crawl, and maybe even stand up with assistance. S/he may even be cruising by holding onto something. We’ll capture your child’s curiosity, smiles and mobility.
Wow! Your baby is about to leave babyland for toddlerhood. We’ll celebrate their 1st birthday, include some of their favorite toys, have you read their favorite book to them. We can even do a cake smash session.
At the end, you have lovely custom portraits to celebrate and document their first year of life, and to preserve (and display) those memories forever!
Just realized that I never did blog this lovely infant portrait of this precious baby boy from Golden, Colorado. I just love doing newborn photography sessions, and have done a slew of them recently.
I even have a twin photography and a triplet!!! portrait session coming up soon. Bring on the baby photography for multiples!
Joyful, Vibrant and Fun!
I also used one of this sweet little Golden, Colorado baby’s portraits ( a different newborn pose – one with Daddy’s baseball) in Studio Magazine Volume 3, which just came out a few weeks ago.
