Denver Urban Photography Studio Tour 2- Natascha Lee Studios – Denver Baby, Kids, Family and Highschool Senior Photography

model portfolio done by you. Do you have any places you shoot with red brick walls, kinda distressed?” And that will become an inspiration to do a blog posting….I can answer that photography client’s specific question with images, and then I have it available anyone in the future who asks. Today, I’m sharing a few iphone videos taken this Fall @ one of my satellite studio locations. This isn’t far from my Denver Studio, but it’s a totally different Urban space and feel.  For one thing, it’s mostly outdoors – so not so great on sub-freezing days. But the variety of background make for fab photos. I did a senior shoot here in the fall, and the space helped us get truly unique photos to celebrate Bella, the Cherry Creek Highschool (CCHS) senior during this special time in her life. The videos below help you get a feel for the place, and I’ve included photos taken in each of the spaces (like my other studio tour posts here and here).

First up is this great red brick barn, with sliding doors on one side and it is just flooded with natural light from the sliding doors:

We can make photos like this: #CCHS Senior Photos - CCHS_ClassOf2017_IMG_7637_NataschaLeeStudios-eal-sfw

And the cool metal staircase in the corner can be used like this: Cherry Creek Highschool Senior Portraits - Denver Family and Model Photographer

This one shows the barn and the outside:

Then there’s this great corner with lots of plants including grape vines climbing an arbor, a super cool metal table, vines climbing the walls, and yummy light:

We can do photos like this:

Finally, the part that is probably my favorite – the huge sliding doors.

And we can use those doors, and the diffused light as a background to make photos like this. I just love, love, love this image:

So that’s the tour. This space is a special place, and available as an upgrade option to your photo session!

Finally, I’ll include some photos I used in a previous post. I was going to link to them, but I might as well just include them here:

Denver Stylish Family Photography – Washington Park

modeling portfolio images for  a local Denver modeling agency, their family portraits last year (also done @ Washington Park) , their older daughter’s senior portraits (go Cherry Creek!), and their entire family this year, too. It’s an honor to be part of my client’s lives like this! And, can I just say how much I love Washington Park? It’s like the National Parks (celebrating their 100th anniversary this year).  But Wash Park is even older. From Wikipedia:

The park was first developed by Architect Reinhard Scheutze in 1899. Its design was influenced by city planner Kessler, the Olmsted Brothers and the famous philanthropist “The Unsinkable” Molly Brown.
So, thanks to those folks over a century ago, and the people today who tend to it and esp the folks who do the flowers and landscaping – they all bring so much joy to so many people. When I’m meeting Denver friends, one of my favorite things to do is to meet there for a walk, bike ride or picnic. We met at sunrise for the family portraits. It’s hard to get camera-ready that early in the morning, but it is always worth it! Denver Family Photography - Portraits at Washington Park by Natascha Lee Studios

Broomfield Family Photography – Fall Family Portraits | Natascha Lee Studios

fall family portrait. Their Sheltie dogs are super sweet, and we made sure to include them in many portraits.* In addition to the semi-posed images where everyone is looking @ the camera, I love capturing “lifestyle” images, which are like these below – it’s a peak into your life….of course, you all happen to be wearing impeccably coordinated outfits, not a hair out of place, and it’s a lovely fall day with the soft warm light from the setting sun behind you.  😉 BTW, do you see mom’s boots! They are soooo stylish. I want to go buy myself a pair. If you follow me on IG, you’ll see that I post images of cowboy boots there from time to time. I saw so many cool ones during a photography trip to Nashville. Broomfield Family and Pet Photography - with Dogs (Natascha Lee Studios)

*Your dogs are part of your family! And we often include them in portraits. There are a few steps to follow to make sure we get the best photos possible, and one of the key  things is to have someone who can take over the dogs once we are done photographing them. A neighbor, a friend, etc. It’s also a good idea to have them groomed a couple days before, and bring them a little bit hungry so they will pay attention. This clever family brought the dogs’ favorite treats and just the word “cookie” made them perk up! Save Save Save Save Save Save Save Save Save Save Save Save]]>

Denver Teen Model of the Month: Corrinne

We are thrilled to introduce our Denver teen model of the month for October:

Denver Teen Model headshots portfolio photographer Natascha Lee StudiosDenver Modeling Headshots and Portfolios for Denver Teen Model

Congrats to our Model of the Month:  Corrinne, a lovely 15 year old (14 when we did her modeling photos) from Denver. Let’s start by meeting Paula, Corrinne’s mom:
Hi! I’m Paula Metcaffe,  originally from Wisconsin. When I have time to myself, I love to garden, work around the house and shop. Our family loves to vacation together in tropical places. For Christmas this year, we opted for palm trees instead of evergreens and went to Hawaii.
And now, a bit about her beautiful daughter – Corrine, tell us about yourself:
Hi, I’m Corrinne Metcaffe and I am 15! -I like snapchat, twitter, volley ball, going to concerts, history and gym. I LOVE makeup and REALLY LOVE food.  I dream of traveling to Australia and all of Europe.
Corrine, what is something about you that surprises people when they find out about it?
People are surprised to find out I was born in California but then lived in Wisconsin until I was 6, when I moved to Colorado.  I’m super tall, so my friends feel like “ant” next to me. If you need anything from your top shelf, I’m your gal!
Paula, made your daughter Corrine interested in modeling?
We heard about an event for kids that wanted to model and act. Corrinne wanted to try it – she was 10. It was held on the Disney property in Florida, just outside of Disneyworld. The kids learned how to walk the runway and pose. The read lines for commercials and performed in front of a camera. There were 1200 kids from all over the country. She got to meet so many people and learn many new things. One of the highlights was meeting the host of the show. It was David Deluise, the dad from Wizards of Waverly Place. There were agents from the east coast and California. She had several offers that would have required us to move for the summer. At the time we were not able to go but it was a great experience and we made a lot of fun memories. She has wanted to model ever since.
Why did you pick Natascha Lee Studios for your modeling headshots?
We picked Natascha for several reasons. We have had numerous photographers over the years. Some were good and others not so good… but we wanted something different.  Something great. So, we began our search. Natascha had such great client reviews and we loved her work. Everyone looked so natural and comfortable. The chemistry with your photographer is almost as important as their skills.
Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before the session?
No. Natascha gave us great prep tips. We were only excited as to how the images would turn out.
What was your favorite part of your session?
The session went so fast. We were there for a few hours but it was so much fun that time flew. Favorite Part –  it was a tossup – the shoot with the glitter was great but I think that doing a shoot on the roof was the best.
Any advice to other new models before their photo sessions?
Bring lots of clothing options. Even more than you think you will need. Have fun!
How did you feel/what did you think when received your images?
So happy! We loved them. Everyone in the family had their favorite!
Ok – the most important question of all: If you could have any superpower, which one would it be and why?
Corrinne: A mind reader –  I could know what my teachers are thinking!

Fraser Winter Park Family Portraits

Fraser Family Portraits Outdoors by Natascha Lee Studios I’m so excited to share these beautiful images with you. They were taken last summer in Fraser near Winter Park, of this fabulous, photogenic and VERY outdoorsy family.  Seriously, who goes CAMPING with a 5 and 2 year old? I’m impressed!

  1. Tell us a little bit about your family?
There are four of us – I’m Sara, and I teach at an arts school. My husband Josh is in technical sales, my daughter Haliey is 5 and my son Sasha is 2. We love to spend time outside, year round – backpacking, hiking, and skiing. Yes, we really do camp with young children but we have tricks. Like, we hike @ East Meadow in RMNP. My husband goes up to the site with one backpack while I take the kids for ice cream, then he comes back and we all hike in, and he is wearing baby Sasha on the baby backpack. No, you don’t get a lot of sleep when camping w/young kids, but there are so many other amazing experiences about backpacking.
  1. What made you decide this was the time to do a photo session?
We had just bought our mountain condo, and wanted to mark this special occasion, to memorialize this time in our lives. Also, the kids were just so adorable – I wanted to capture both their adorableness now! Plus, I wasn’t getting any younger! 😉
  1. You did a “Super Session”, which is offered for families buying images for two or more distinct homes.
Yes, I was excited for the variety that the Super Session offers. It was intimidating to gather outfits for two different sessions but in the end I loved it. It gave us a variety of images and it really worked well for our young kids because they got a nice break between sessions while they changed clothes, got something to drink etc. I also liked the different light between the first session when the sun was first coming up around 6am, and the and second session an hour later. Even though the sessions were back to back, there was quite a difference in the light.
  1.  Was there anything you were nervous or worried about before the session?
The kids behavior!  Because my daughter can be difficult and my son, well he is two. I was also nervous about getting the clothes together.  But Natascha gave me great prep tips, and the “what to wear” links helped.
  1. What made you choose Natascha Lee Studios?
I saw your images on your website, and they matched what I had in mind – very natural, and not staged or posed.
  1. How did the actual  photo session go?
It went great. I loved that Natascha came to us, to my favorite spot in Fraser. And everyone (even my husband) was engaged the entire time. I think it was Natascha’s enthusiasm that got everyone involved. And she kept things moving – we tried lots of different poses, locations, etc. I was amazed at how well the kids responded to the bribe of a single Smartie candy – not even the whole roll, just a single candy. (Photographers note: this is my top secret helper. I never bring it out until I have exhausted all the other options, but it works great and it doesn’t leave any stains on hands or faces or clothes…that way that chocolate might.)
  1. How about the viewing session? – What did you think or feel when you saw your gallery of images? What did your husband think?
It was overwhelming because there were so many great images. It was great to see them all, very professional presented on the large TV. The viewing session experience did justice to the images.
  1. What do you hope your children will say/feel/think years down the road when looking at these images?
These will be great keepsakes. I hope my kids realized remember how cute they were! And I’m excited to give these as Xmas gifts.
  1. Any advice to other families before their photo sessions?
Really follow N’s tip advice. She knew that clothes and kid’s behavior were the two top concerns everyone has. She said to dress Mom first and I didn’t do that – I dressed the kids first. It all worked out, but I wish I had dressed myself first. When selecting for the kids first, that then limited my choices. Also, be sure to allow 2 hours for your viewing session, so you can take time to select your favorite images. If you have a location that is special to you, spend the extra money to have your photos taken at that location – you will love the photos that much more. Get images now, while your kids are still so cute! And while you are the age you are now. As I said before, we aren’t getting any younger!
  1. How did you feel/what did you think when received your final order/had your products delivered? What did your husband think?
LOVED it.  Everyone who sees them says “Wow, you guys look so good.”   Winter Park Family Photos Outside by Natascha Lee Studios

Top 10 Tips for Having a Blast @ Lantern Fest

LanternFest in Denver. It was a cool experience and a good family event and the people working the event seemed super nice. But like many things –  it’s so much more fun if you have a few tips beforehand. Here are my Top 10 Tips for having a blast @ Lantern Fest.

  1. Bring chairs, and blankets to be comfortable. If your weather is even possibly going to cold/rainy, bring jackets and umbrellas. And don’t leave them in the car! You will be soooo far from your parked car, that you want to have them with you.
  2. Bring your snacks, drinks, dinner food, including extra marshmallow supplies. (This is important – the “smores kit” you get doesn’t have nearly enough supplies in it.) You’ll get wooden smores sticks @ the event, but if you are like me and have your own really good smores sticks – go ahead and bring those, too. Just be sure to put a wine cork on the end of the sticks so that you don’t accidentally poke anyone during transport.  Bring water also – it’s hard/expensive to obtain there. Most of the locations let you bring in anything but glass or alcohol.
  3. Bring a regular long-handled lighter or two. The little ones they give you are very hard to use and you’ll burn your hand trying to use them. You want some space between your hand and what you are trying to light. BTW, that little square piece of cardboard really is the only thing you light; the fuel is embedded in the cardboard. (I didn’t understand this at first, and I went back to ask for the fuel for my lantern!)
  4. Put all of the above items into a wagon or cart to make it easy to carry – but make sure you can lift your cart up the stairs – you may not be able to pull it all the way.
  5. If you have young children, go about two hours before sundown. Doors open at 3pm, the lanterns fly around 8 pm. If you go at 6pm, you’ll still see lots of fun action (like costumed characters walking around, face painting, etc), and your kids won’t be bored by the time the lanterns fly. The downside is that you should expect long lines to get in (both into parking and into the event) at that time.
  6. Since these are held on the outskirts of town, in areas with low fire danger, they may be dusty. Which means you may have lots of dust/dirt blowing into your face while waiting for the wind to die down. If it’s rainy or windy, expect delays regarding when you get to release your lanterns. (In Denver, I think they wanted us all to release at the same time and perhaps they wanted to wait until the wind died down. But the loudspeaker system didn’t work, so no one knew when we were supposed to do. About 1 hour after it got dark, everyone started releasing them.)
  7. Leave the electronic devices (ipads, etc) @ home. Of course bring your camera to take photos, but this is about the experience! You’ll meet lots of fun people and can make some new friends.
  8. The firepits are lit around sundown, and there are only a few of them. The early birds set their chairs up around those few firepits. So unless you were there early, you’ll need to just ask to share someone else’s firepit. Everyone is super nice about this, so just cozy on up!
  9. Bring a flashlight – that will make a big difference as you walk around after dark.
  10. Be sure to take a selfie with your family, facing away from the lanterns so that they create a lovely background behind you.
  11. Bonus Tip: Take a photo of your lantern before it gets dark. You will be provided a sharpie to write hopes, dreams, drawings, etc on the lantern and it will be fun to have a photo of what your lantern looked like before it flew.
