Denver newborn family photography session a few months back.  Don’t they look like a rockstar family? She’s one of my favorites! And she has been a little sick recently, so I hope this cheers her up. Funny backstory: Mamma texted me a photo before this shoot (her fourth shoot with me, I think) and it had three shirts laying on a bed – one for her, one for her older son and one for her husband. I mistakenly thought her son was supposed to wear all three shirts layered (obvs -the photo didn’t do a great job of showing the relative sizes).  I wrote back something like….”all three shirts layered? I think he will get hot.” LOL. Then she explained what she meant. BTW, getting the clothing together for your family shoot can be stressful – but it can also be a blast! After years of doing family portraits, I know that getting the  clothes together for your family shoot can be challenging- so I offer lots of prep help in different formats, to meet your own preferred style of learning. I have email/text tips, Pinterest Boards, and even a custom Studio Magazine with prep tips and suggestions for any type of photoshoot. Of course, I also offer help via phone and/or text. Anyway, I loved this shoot. Her beautiful, stylish home was designed by her, and has the most amazing light everywhere. Denver Family Photography - Newborn and Big Brother

There, I post lots of fun photos from current and past baby, family, and model shoots, a few of my art images (like the flowers below on the red deck and the yellow flowers from San Diego), and even a few BTS (behind the scenes) images. Here is an absolute fav from a recent Denver newborn  + family portrait session:Denver Newborn Photography - Family Portraits

Erin (above) came for her viewing session – She told me she was so excited that she couldn’t sleep the night before. 😉 We did the shoot in her fabulous, light-filled custom designed (by her) home, but we met for the viewing session @ my studio. We opened the wine, had a few snacks and then previewed her images.

After she saw the images for the first time, she said “Oh, I love you and I hate you.” (The “love” was b/c of how fab the images were….and the”hate” was a joke, because they were so amazing that it was going to be hard to pick her favorites.)

That’s what we do @ the viewing sessions – you get to see the images, you are wowed and overwhelmed (but very happy) and then I help you select your favorites depending on what you are planning to do (wall canvas, album, gifts for others, prints for the office, digital files, etc.). It can take 1 – 2 hours to do this, but you’ll end up with your favorite images in exactly the products you want! I can even superimpose properly scaled images onto an image of your wall. Here is a sample, taken from another family’s viewing session:

I had one of my personal favs made up into a matted print as a special thank you b/c this is the fourth time I have photographed her family and I absolutely adore them all. Here is a snapshot of her with it. She loved this image so much she told me it distracted her as she drove home.

Denver Newborn Photographer, I am so honored to photograph your baby’s first few days of life. Remember the yoga maternity images from last month? Here is her sweet baby boy – – just 5 days new. He is resting on a blanket his parents got in Nepal, when they were both teaching overseas. That’s one of the things I suggest to new parents in their Newborn Photo Session Prep Tips; think about any special items from your home, or heirlooms that you would like to incorporate into your baby’s newborn portraits. Perhaps a rocking chair you had when you were a kid, or perhaps a special blanket you got in your travels. I’ve even photographed a newborn baby (a Triplet) with the photo of the Great Grandma she was named after. newborn session last week. Baby X is 4 days old, and big brother Z is 3. His hand on Mommy’s shoulder, his sweet kiss to his new baby brother’s head, the contrast of the light skin on the dark shirts – WOW! (And no, this didn’t happen by accident – I provide all clients with simple prep tips to help us get AMAZING images like this one. It can be overwhelming to get professional photos taken, and even more overwhelming to prepare for a session while you have a newborn.  And this is true if it’s your first, or your second…. or fifth,  if you gave birth or if you adopted. In any situation, it’s a major transitional time and who can be expected to think of all the details needed to prep for photos???? That’s why I make it easy and give you step by step prep tips!) BTW, if you read my blog posts you will know I’m a HUGE advocate for getting mom in the photo. I know that sometimes just after giving birth, and/or not sleeping for 4 or 5 days, you don’t feel like being photographed. But your images will be cherished by many more people, and more generations, if you are in it the image also. And since I view fine family photography as family heirloom, let’s make it as valuable as possible to as many generations as possible. Here’s one example how we can accomplish getting moms in the photo if you don’t really feel like being photographed. And, you are still very much part of the photo.  For the record, I def still prefer to have all of you – your face, your beautiful expression as you gaze at your newborn. But this is lovely, too!
